Surname Saturday: ECK

John Jacob EGG arrived in Pennsylvania in 1745 from Switzerland (or probably more likely modern day Switzerland). He lived in Montgomery county, Pennsylvania and the family eventually settled in Berks county. Then in the 1830s the ECK family moved to the rural, farming areas of Lycoming county and eventually to the city of Williamsport.

My descent is as follows:
  • John Jacob EGG - died 13 Feb 1747 in Montgomery county, Pennsylvania. He was married to Anna Marie Margaret KULCHER.
  • John Johannes EGG/ECK - born about 1720 and died 9 Jun 1809 in Berks county. He married Mary Eva STAHL.
  • Joseph EGG/ECK - born in Berks county in 1757 and died 6 Sep 1827 in Berks county. He married Mary Agatha RIFFEL.
  • Joseph ECK - born 4 Mar 1797 in Berks county. On 9 Jan 1816, he married Mary BAUER. With their children, they moved to Limestone township, Lycoming county, Pennsylvania and were members of the Immaculate Conception Church in Bastress. He died in 1856 in Lycoming county.
  • William ECK - born 20 Feb 1823 in Berks county. He married Lucetta SWOYER in Lycoming county in 1850. He died 5 Oct 1900 in Oval, Lycoming county, Pennsylvania and is buried in the Immaculate Conception cemetery.
  • John Jeremiah ECK - born 19 Jun 1857 in Lycoming county. He married Theresa BANK on 25 May 1887. He died 8 Jul 1935 in South Williamsport, Lycoming county, Pennsylvania and is buried at the Mount Carmel Cemetery.
  • Eugene Jerome ECK - born 23 Mar 1893. He married Magdalena HAEFNER on 11 Sep 1919. They both died on 2 Jan 1975 in Williamsport.
  • My grandmother - maiden name ECK - still living
