One of my third great grandmothers was Lovina MATTHEWS. She was born in 14 March 1840 in Vinton, Gallia county, Ohio. She married Francis Marion Washburn on 14 October 1865. She died 19 December 1883 in Cincinnati, Ohio and was buried at McGhee Cemetery in Gallia county, Ohio.
Lovina was the daughter of Thomas Russell Matthews and Susan Roath. Thomas was born 2 April 1815 in Cheshire township, Gallia county, Ohio. He died 17 May 1868 in Jackson, Jackson county, Ohio. Their children were John R, Iona, George P, Anselm Holcolm, Mary, Esther, Lydia Louisa, and Grace.
Thomas Russell Matthews was the son of Phineas Matthews and Mary Anderson/Russell (she was the illegitimate child of Colbert Anderson and the adopted daughter of Moses Russell). Mary was Phineas' first wife. He later married Abigail Nobles and then Chloe Sisson. Phineas was born 27 July 1770 in New Braintree, Massachusetts. He died 2 April 1854 in Ohio.
Phineas was the son of Aaron Matthews and Mary Hubbard.
